About Chuyao Dong (Skylar) chuyaodong008@gmail.comHi, this is Chuyao (Skylar) DongA designer focus on social ethics, justice and fairness.

Chuyao (Skylar) is a designer focused on social ethics, justice, and fairness. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction. Skylar is expected to graduate from Macau University of Science and Technology with a degree in Computer Science in July, 2025.

Demonstrating her passion for social ethics, justice, and fairness, Skylar served as a volunteer to preserve Macau’s human-situated culture. She surveyed, interviewed, physically experimented, and launched an urban planning project, “Tomorrow Taipa,” with her team members to better explore how local citizens and tourists could integrate how they understand and access the local culture in a featured way.

Enhancing the lived experiences of under-preserved communities gave her a profound sense of accomplishment. Skylar further focused on real-world under-preserved community and techno-socio-cultural systems through critical design, engagement, and sensemaking with her curated design and media.

In the project “Silent Vinyl Record”, she designed a biased court where a vinyl recorder acts as the AI lawyer to conduct the unfair censorship of evidence to unfold the policy-making bias, where individual evidence will be randomly deleted or noised, metaphorically as how bias is inclined to giant tech. In the project “Hustling Stamp”, she speculated that human slavery to dominant capitalism has trapped the minds of working adults, stealing their “childhood time” as they conform to professional norms. In the project “To Be Free or Trapped?”, she explored humanity’s relationship with freedom, aiming to show that freedom is not about controlling everything, but about embracing uncertainty and accepting the responsibilities that come with it.

Now, Skylar is exploring the intersection of art, technology, and human ethics, focusing on critical and speculative media to uncover hidden issues within techno-social systems, particularly the human values behind disparities and the ethical challenges of social justice and fairness.
